Sweet Magazine is known for being beautiful and full of inspiration – we want you to see our shoots and think ‘Hey! I want to do that!’, and the whole team is dedicated to keeping it that way. Issue Three was no exception and we were so lucky to have an extremely talented crew together for our Boho Glam Wedding Inspiration Shoot. So while Leanne our Style Editor and the gorgeous bundle of talent running Sweet Style took photos of the styling from uber talented duo Melissa and Simon from Ashdown & Bee, I hopped around and got in everyone’s way with my camera to snap you some behind the scenes piccies of our day.
It all started with a beautiful blue sky…
Ok so that’s a small lie, it started months before when we decided to go all out and put together a stunning boho glam wedding for inspiration in the 2014 Wedding Annual of Sweet Magazine. In the week leading up the weather was atrocious, and then BAM! The publishing goddesses smiled upon us with this stunning day.
The venue? A backyard. You never know where you’ll find the perfect place to take a photo. You’ll often find me doing strange yoga poses over fences, or sitting in the middle of a road to get the perfect shot, and I’m not a stranger to hobbling around on my knees in public places to get the shot I want (which is why if I’m holding my camera, I’m wearing black jeans – I learnt the hard way). When another venue fell through, this one presented the perfect location for a bit of boh0 glam!
Leanne is much more composed in her photography. In my defence, at 6’1″ unless you want everything shot top down, sometimes I just have to sit on the ground!
What is “boho glam”?
That’s a really good question! For us the glam element came from the glittering gold accents and beautiful bold tablecloth (available to hire from Any Occasion Events). Bold reds and pinks, big overstated blooms, ribbons, feathers, and a floral crown were brought together with lace, clear glass jars as vases, and natural wooden stands to create the boho.
I just loved these big bare bulbs draped in a loose canopy above our table. They add so much atmosphere!
Don’t forget to add candles. We used big pillars (keep them away from your flowers!). Hang your cake in the centre of your sweet table. You heard us right: hang! This stunning hand painted three tier cake was expertly crafted by Jacki Fanto from Blissfully Sweet.

What I learned…
Cute ideas sometimes don’t translate to film. We got the bride and groom to link arms and eat cakepops in the way you’d have a drink of champagne – hilarious and unpublishable results. No we won’t share them, they’re really that bad.
Prepare a shot list, I do it for most other things, but for this one, for some reason I didn’t. And knowing what I want in my head is no good when I’m not the photographer.
Helium is lighter than air. Our V staged an escape attempt and went flying off into the atmosphere. We thought Sam and Jess made a cute stand in, and Simon does a good job too!
